For Infantree’s purposes: SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a standard security technology for creating an encrypted connection between a website and a browser. It encrypts normal HTTP requests and responses, and to digitally sign those requests and responses. The result, HTTPS, is far more secure than HTTP (e.g., https://www.infantree.com). SSL is now a ranking factor for search engines, and some browsers will refuse to display websites that are not encrypted. Anchor Host provides SSL management as part of its services.
