Brandywine Conservancy’s Native Garden Hub

Native gardens
are blooming in PA

Like the name suggests, the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art is an organization with an unusual, two-pronged mission. As an art museum, they steward more than 5,000 works, primarily by N.C. Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth, and other members of the Brandywine School. As a nature conservancy, they’ve helped preserve more than 70,000 acres of forests, farmland, and historic sites.

Their team approached us with a concept that builds on their legacy of curating beauty and caring for nature. Enter Brandywine Native Garden Hub, an interactive native plant gallery that allows people to design their own garden boards.

Think Pinterest,
but for plants

Just a little CMS flex

We designed custom blocks that are fully flexible—whether that means hiding content in some areas or shuffling blocks within a page.

Spades of data, made user friendly

Brandywine Conservancy’s staff had a treasure trove of information they wanted to share with beginner gardeners and experts alike. We paired our information architecture chops with real-world testing to ensure all that data didn’t overwhelm. User surveys helped us develop robust filtering (with custom icons), and a clear hierarchy paved the way for a fresh, friendly design.

No need to reinvent
the mill wheel

Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art already had an established identity based on a grinding stone—a relic from the historic mill on their property. We leveraged this icon to lend credibility for the Native Garden Hub.
